A panel or box PC exists where the device is part of the machine: bolted to a line, a kiosk or a test rig, powered permanently, wired to the PLC over RJ45 or RS232. It is not carried, so the design goes into ports, mounting and fanless thermal headroom instead of battery life.

The terminal is bolted where the work happens: work-order scan at the station, torque-tool data over RS232, a photo of the defect attached to the order. Coolant, swarf and vibration are the design constraints.
